Exterior lead paint removal in Concord means dealing with the one-story ranches, split-levels and garden apartments built after the war, and Concord Lead Paint Removal arranges it. Blasting and siding removal come up in this work, so the first thing to know is that California treats outdoor paint like indoor paint: disturbing lead paint without containment is a lead hazard under Title 17.

The survey counts 28,022 detached houses among Concord’s 47,703 homes, and 9,135 homes date from the 1950s alone. We plan exterior work across Concord, Martinez and Pleasant Hill.

Exterior surfaces

Stucco and plaster exteriors

The EPA says its renovation rule reaches stucco only when the stucco has been painted. A painted wall in a pre-1978 house is therefore covered when it is patched, scraped or cut, while bare stucco is outside the rule. Someone has to establish which kind of wall it is before the scope is set.

Wood siding, fascia and eaves

Boards, fascia and eaves face the weather, which can break paint down into chips and chalk. The debris can fall into planting beds and onto the ground under the roof line. Removal can mean wet scraping inside a contained zone, covering with new boards, or replacing the piece outright.

Garage doors and trim

Garage doors slam, slide and scrape, so their edges and the trim around them wear differently from a flat wall. Frames, rails and thresholds take the abuse. A door that is past saving can be swapped, with the old one bagged and hauled away.

Blasting and high-dust methods

Abrasive blasting is fast, and it turns a painted wall into airborne dust and spent grit. Title 17 requires containment during lead work and no visible dust or debris at the end, a hard test outdoors. We talk through which method fits the surface, and we give no do-it-yourself blasting advice.

Notice and posting

Form 8551 has to reach CDPH at least five days before permanent abatement and hang at the site. CDPH’s guidance on that notice also covers telling residents, so ask the abatement firm who needs to be told and when.

Concord permits for exterior work

Bulletin IB-022 is Concord’s list of permit work for single-family and duplex homes. It names re-roofing, patio covers, room additions, windows and sliding glass doors; it says it is not complete, and it does not mention repainting. For siding, stucco repair or other exterior changes, phone the Building Division at (925) 671-3107 before you plan the job.

What affects the cost

Wall area and height, scaffolding, the surface (stucco, wood or trim), how much paint is failing, and whether the plan is stripping, covering or replacing all change the scope. Containment, waste handling and the CDPH notice add steps that an ordinary repaint does not have.

Frames count as exterior, which makes lead paint window and door work the next page. Read lead paint inspection and testing to learn which coats contain lead, or go back to Concord Lead Paint Removal.
